Take Action: Ask Your Members to Contact Their Legislators
Please encourage the members of your organization to urge their legislators to support the Health Education Bill. They can find tips for speaking with legislators or they can write a letter to their legislator.
Don't know who your legislators are? It's easy to find out!
Here is a sample of a letter to your legislator:
Dear (Senator/Representative____________________,)
I am writing to ask you to support the Health Education Bill, "An Act Providing Health Education in Schools." This legislation would add the health education curriculum framework that has been developed by the Massachusetts Department of Education to the core curriculum for public schools.
Health education saves lives. "An Act Providing Health Education in Schools" will ensure that young people in Massachusetts receive the health education they need and deserve.
Adding health education to the core curriculum will provide students with essential information about such topics as: nutrition, exercise, mental health, safety and injury prevention, reproduction and sexuality, substance abuse, and violence prevention.
I believe that young people need access to comprehensive health education in order to make responsible decisions, prevent disease, reduce risky behaviors, and lead healthy lives. I support adding health education, as defined by the Department of Education framework, into the core curriculum. I live in your district and I am urging you to support the Health Education Bill. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you,
